Immersed yourself in the Japanese style in “Yamadera” - To the mountain area!

The official name of the tourist attraction “Yamadera” is "Hoshuzan Risshakuji Temple.” It takes 50 minutes from Sendai Station by JR Senzan Line. It is the birthplace of haiku poet, Matsuo Basho. The mountain gate as an entrance is about 5 minutes on foot from Yamadera Station, but it takes about 1 hour including 1,015 steps of a staircase to Okunoin located far end. The scenery below the view from the Godaido stuck out on the cliff near Okunoin is superb. Especially, the scenery that looks like brocade’s carpet is a masterpiece of the autumn foliage season in October! There is Sakunami Station between Sendai Station and Yamadera Station, so it is also recommended to stop by Sakunami Onsen.
