In the late Edo period (1603 - 1868), the offshore artillery battery that was artificially built deployed at the coast of Shinagawa to protect Tokyo (then called Edo) from a foreign fleet. The place where the battery was located was called “Odaiba” and that is the root of the name. The development has progressed since the redevelopment plan of Tokyo waterfront city that aimed to alleviate the population increase and traffic congestion in the central Tokyo in the 1990s, and the Odaiba area has greatly developed.

When you get off south exit of Yurikamome Line “Kokusai-tenjijo-shomen Station, “Mizu no Hiroba Park” will spread out in front of your eyes. It is nice to see water buses which come and go to the Ariake Passenger Ship Terminal and walk along the promenade, but you can even enjoy fishing in this park. You can fish Goby, Seigo/Fukko (young seabass) free of charge throughout the year. (Note: no facilities to rent fishing tools around the area).

How to get to Odaiba

How to get to Odaiba
From various places in the city to the Odaiba area, the following 2 lines are recommended. “Yurikamome” that connects the Shinbashi Station of JR Yamanote Line/Keihin Tohoku Line/Metro Ginza Line/Asakusa Line to Metro Yurakucho Line Toyosu Station via the Odaiba area. The other one is “Rinkai Line” connecting JR Yamanote Line Osaki Station to Metro Yurakucho Line Shinkiba Station via Odaiba area.

If you use the limousine bus from Haneda Airport or Narita Airport, you can go straight to the Odaiba area without transfer. You can also use the water bus to go to the Odaiba area. It is particularly convenient to use the water bus from the Asakusa or Kasai area.
