Let's enjoy aged beef and wines from around the world if you dine out at a restaurant in Tokyo, Japan!
If you get tired after a long-hour shopping for electric appliances while you are in Akihabara on a Japan trip, where would you go for dinner? This time I will introduce a restaurant “MEAT WINERY” in Akihabara. This restaurant offers meats and wines as its name suggests, but wonder what's so special? In fact, aged beef is very popular at this restaurant.
The restaurant in Akihabara, Japan is particular about the selected aged beef and its deliciousness.
Leaving meat as it is isn't the same as getting matured. It matures under the strict control of the environment as keeping constant temperature and humidity. As older wine makes it more delicious, the matured meat is more delicious than fresh meat. This time, I came to this restaurant as I wanted to check its taste.
Approximately 5-minute walk from JR Akihabara Station, taking an elevator to the 6th floor of quiet appearance building near Tokyo Metro Suehirocho Station. The other side of the elevator door is the restaurant “MEAT WINERY.”
Inside the restaurant is spacious and it can be accommodated around 40 to 50 people. You can see a refrigerator, which is packed with plenty of meat behind the counter.
The kitchen is on the left side, and the long sofa seats are on the right side.
Let's check out the menu! They have menus in Chinese and English as well as Japanese. One of them was the lunch menu, and it says that you can have refills for rice and soup for free during lunch time. Good news for those of us who have been shopping for a long time and tired of walking.
The signature meal of the restaurant is not only the aged beef! Enjoy abundant a la carte dishes with wines from all over the world.
Besides their signature aged beef, they offer you a steak with fresh beef. If you are not able to eat beef, there are also other dishes with pork and lamb. One of staffs came to us and explained the menu since we were debating what to order. In addition to meals, they offer a variety of liquor. There are also a la carte menus including seafood, salad, appetizers and so on. This seems to be suitable for eating as a snack when drinking at night.
At the bar counter, there are many bottles of wine from around the world. It seemed to be nice to swing by and grab some wine at night.
I decided to order a beef rib steak that aged for 20 days by the staff’s recommendation. We also ordered a pork dish that uses Iberico brand pork from Spain. If you want to try various menus, you can order meat in grams, besides the set meals mentioned earlier.
Rice and soup are placed by the side of the bar counter. It is self-service, and you can eat as much as you like.
Taste juicy Iberico-Pork at the restaurant in Akihabara, Japan
Soon after we noticed the aroma of cooking, our dishes were served. These are rice and soup, which we took from the stand.
Let's start eating with Iberico-Pork first! Some people may not like beef. The pork and lamb dishes are recommended for those who don’t eat beef like me. Besides Iberico-Pork, there is also aged pork as a special dish.
As the meat was already cut when they were served to the table, fiber of the meat was visible. There is no sauce but pork is already seasoned, and salad on the side. The pork was grilled well-done, but wasn't too dry.
Inside the meat looked pinkish, but this was already well cooked. Some people don't like pork, but Iberico-Pork I ate today had no bloody smell at all, and it was very juicy!
Taste the aged beef that condensed flavor at the restaurant in Akihabara, Japan
Finally, the aged beef. What I ordered today was the beef rib steak that aged for 20 days, and it was quite chewy. It was cooked in medium-rare, which is basic, but if you prefer different doneness, tell the restaurant’s staff your preference at the time of order.
Three kinds of seasonings such as seaweed salt, wasabi, and grain mustard were served together, and you can put them as you like. Each of them has different flavor to bring out the taste of the meat. However, I was satisfied with the deliciousness of the aged beef itself, so I felt that no need to use so much seasonings.
It was cooked in medium-rare, but the color was beautiful with no red juice, and the texture was more likely medium-well. You can easily cut with a knife as you can see the fiber of the meat. Because it was aged meat, there was no smell of raw meat, and it was very easy-to- eat. Meat was tender but firm, and the flavor spread in the mouth every time I bit. I didn’t have to bite so much with some muscular parts, and they had different texture. I made a right choice! It was worth to taste.
Try the tasty aged beef in the restaurant in Akihabara, Japan
The meal at “MEAT WINERY” was very valuable. Not only they give you the tasty aged beef but also the amount of meal makes you satisfied. I didn’t expect that there was such a delicious restaurant hidden in the quiet building! The next time you come to Japan, I highly recommend you this restaurant after hanging out in Akihabara, Tokyo. Try experiencing the taste of the aged meat, which can’t express in words!
