“Yokohama Motomachi Shopping Street”

“Yamashita Park - Marine Tower”

The Yokohama Bay Bridge is one of the symbols of Yokohama Port, it can be seen from the Yamashita Park along the harbor. In the park, there is the Nippon Yusen Hikawa-maru (Important Cultural Property), which is known for having Chaplin on board. You can visit inside, there are dining room, the first smoking room, and the first-class special room.

On the other side of Yamashita Park, there is a Yokohama Marine Tower. This was built in 1961 as a memorial project for the 100th anniversary of Yokohama Port Opening. It became a landmark of Yokohama. The night view from the observatory with a height of 106m is romantic!

“The Sankeien Garden”

The Sankeien Garden is a Japanese garden opened in 1906 by Hara Sankei, a businessman who made wealth by silk trade in the Meiji era. In the park of 175,000 square meters, “Rinshunkaku” (Important Cultural Property) said to be a villa in the Kishu Tokugawa family who was in Wakayama prefecture is located. “Gekkaden” (Important Cultural Property) which has been said to build in Fushimi Castle of Kyoto by Ieyasu Tokugawa is located. The three-storied pagoda from Tomyo-ji Temple is relocated from Kyoto in 1914, and Buddha statue transferred from Kamakura Tokei-ji Temple in 1907 are present. Thus, there are a total of 17 historical buildings relocated from Kyoto and Kamakura.

In the vast garden, you can enjoy the flowers of every season. In spring season, you can see the cherry blossoms and wisteria. During the summer there will be water lily and hydrangeas. The fall season will be full of autumn leaves and cluster amaryllis blooming, and the winter season will be welcomed with camellia and plums. Therefore, you can enjoy the four-season flowers.

How to access to Yokohama

How to access to Yokohama
If you are going to visit Yokohama from Tokyo Station, take the JR Tokaido Line. If you are planning to come from Shinjuku Station, JR Shonan Shinjuku Line is convenient. Those of you that do not mind taking little extra time, you could use JR Keihin Tohoku Line. From Shinagawa Station, you could also use Keihin Kyuko in addition to JR Tokaido Main Line and JR Keihin Tohoku Line.

From Shibuya Station take the JR Shonan Shinjuku Line or Tokyu Toyoko Line. The Toyoko Line automatically transfers to Minato Mirai Line from Yokohama Station, so you can go straight to the Minato Mirai area and Yokohama Chinatown.

When going to Yokohama from Osaka or Nagoya etc, take the Tokaido Shinkansen and get off at Shin-Yokohama Station. And let's get on the Yokohama municipal subway Blue Line from there. If you are coming from Haneda Airport, Keihin Kyuko or express bus is convenient.

The Minato Mirai Line is convenient if you reach to Yokohama Station and planning to head towards Minato Mirai area, Yokohama Chinatown area, and Motomachi area. Motomachi can also be accessed from Ishikawacho Station of JR Keihin Tohoku Line.
