Taste of slipping time to the Heian period! “Gosho YASHIRONOMORI” (Awa City, Tokushima Prefecture)
It is a traditional Japanese inn, reproducing the architectural style, “Shinden-zukuri” from the Heian period, the stage of the “Genji Monogatari,” which is said to be the world's oldest novel, written over 1,000 years ago. There are only 10 guest rooms in the site of about 3,000 tsubo (about 9,917m2).
The room decoration that are a golden folding screen, a bamboo blind, and futon(comforter) resembling Uchikake (a women’s bridal robe) make you feel becoming the Heian aristocrat. Back then, it is said that sending Waka (a general term of poetry by Japan-specific form) to each other and talk all night long through a bamboo blind was the manner of love.

“Lamp no Yado” is an inn refurbished a palatial residence of a luxury merchant who was a wholesaler in port at the place called “Seiiki no Misaki (sacred cape)” surrounded by the Sea of Japan, and has been running for about 450 years since then. There had been no electricity, only lamps were used as only light until recently.
