The “Azumino Art Line” is located from Azumino City to Hakuba Village extending over 50 kilometers, studded with 19 art museums at the foot of the Northern Alps, called “Japan's roof.” Looking on the majestic Northern Alps, you can enjoy driving, cycling, taking walks, and so on as you go from museum to museum. It is quite accessible, only about 30 minutes by car from Matsumoto City, the basis of Shinshu sightseeing.

The “Azumino Chihiro Art Museum,” popular among women, displays the works of Chihiro Iwasaki and picture book artists of the world. The museum stands in a magnificent garden, and the beautiful scenery should also be one of the highlights.

The “Azumino Arthills Museum” is another must-go place, displaying mainly works by “Emile Galle” and also a glass blowing workshop, restaurant, and a shop.

They have everyday glassware made by glass artists, and you should find many items that are great for souvenirs; a fun place just to browse around. There are also beautiful glass items such as kiriko, a Japanese traditional cut glass and carefully selected Italian glass pens.

5th Shin Soba & Local Specialty Foods Festival in Azumino (Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture)

At the festival, you can enjoy the taste of fragrant shin (new) soba noodles with freshly-grated Azumino-produced horseradish. There are also apples, rice, vegetables, local sake, oyaki (dumpling made from buckwheat dough and vegetable stuffing), sweets and more, as “delicious Azumino” is gathered here. This festival's main dish is soba noodles. If you are allergic to buckwheat, please be careful.

Azumino is located at an altitude of 600 meters to 700 meters, with favorable conditions for delicious fruit to grow such as large temperature difference between day and night, low precipitation, and short duration of sunshine. You can enjoy sweet apples grown with plenty of sunshine when you go apple picking at the all-you-can-eat kajuen (orchard).
