“Sagano Romantic train” -- Discontinued railroad is reborn into Kyoto’s tourist train
The old line of Sanin line, 7.3 km that was abolished with electrification and double tracking became a tourist train using trolley cars, which remodeled wagons. While heading to the scenic sight, Arashiyama Kyoto, you can enjoy the view of Hozukyo Gorge. In front of Torokko Saga Station, there is “19th Century Hall” that exhibits 19th century's science technology and art, such as the steam locomotive type D51. To Saga Arashiyama Station that is adjacent to Torokko Saga Station, it takes only 15 minutes by train from JR Kyoto Station. It is easy to incorporate into your sightseeing plan of Kyoto.

A gorge train, “Kurobe Gorge Torokko Train” is still supporting energy development
“Kurobe Gorge Torokko Train” was made for power development along the Kurobe River, which flows from the North Alps into the Sea of Japan. In the vicinity, there are many representative sights of Japan including Kurobe Dam and Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Even today, not only for sightseeing purposes, but also private trains for an electric power company are in operation. While 1 hour and 20 minutes one-way trip, the dynamic views such as rock walls, iron bridges and more continue along. The car is smaller than ordinary trains, and you can choose a windowless open-air car or with window.

Number of tickets per train is limited. Tickets can be booked three months in advance of the day of ride.
“Minamiaso Railway Torokko Train Yusuge-go” runs around Aso caldera
A train that three torokko cars with two small diesel locomotives runs one of the tourist destinations, Aso in Kyushu. From the window, you will enjoy the panoramic views of Aso Gogaku and Gairinzan, and the Shirakawa Gorge. Due to earthquake damage, it currently runs 7.1km between Takamori Station and Nakamatsu Station in about 25 minutes.
