One of the fun things about traveling in Japan is “Onsen (hot springs)”. There are various ways to enjoy bathing, but why not try unique bathing method? This time, we will guide you to the representative spots of “Sunaburo (Sand Bath),” its efficacy and bathing methods.

3~4 times more effective than normal Onsen

Sand bath is the way you can cover up your body with warm sand and stay bathing for 10~20 minutes. The position of the head, foot and heart are parallel by lying down, and the pressure of sand increases the amount of blood. For these reasons, it is said that sand bath is 3 to 4 times more effective than normal onsen on fatigue recovery and beautiful skin.

In the sand bath, you will wear yukata for bathing. A specialized attendant is in the facility and covers your body up with sand when you lie down at the specified space.

Megumi no Yu offers a sand salt bath in which white sand and mineral rich salt blended, and it is very popular as it encourages blood and sweat circulations. There is a brief counseling before taking the sand salt bath, and you can have several herbal teas according to your physical condition.
