Beyond a carpet of moss phlox is Mt.Fuji - “Shiba-sakura Festival 2017”
800,000 plants of shibazakura (moss phlox) in fabulous colors such as red, white, purple and pink stretch across the ground. Beyond that, you will see World Heritage Mt. Fuji still with some residual snow. We would like to introduce you to Shiba-sakura Festival, which is a typical springtime feature held in the area of Mt. Fuji, and also a hot spot for travelers to Japan during this season.
No matter where you are at the site, you’ll get a superb view, great for taking pictures. Different angles have different picturesque sceneries, such as the Ryujin-ike pond, where you can see a reflection of Mt. Fuji, Mini shibazakura Fuji, and Diamond Fuji patterned shibazakura. During the festival, you’ll see various other flowers blooming such as muscari, anemone, forsythia, and primrose.

Meanwhile, the “Mt. Fuji Delicious Foods Festival” is also held. It is a celebration of food with delicious and reasonably priced local specialties that all gather here, such as “Fujinomiya yakisoba,” “Fuji-Yoshida udon,” “Koshu chicken giblet stew,” and Yamanashi Prefecture’s popular local cuisine “Koshu pumpkin hoto stew.” Also, there is the Fuji Street Performance Festival, where more than 25 groups of street performers that represent Japan compete their skills.

There are many sightseeing spots around the Five Lakes of Mt. Fuji area. The northern shore area of Lake Kawaguchi, where you can see Mt. Fuji beyond the lake, there is the Fuji Kawaguchiko Cherry Blossom Festival held April 14-23. Also, don’t miss Fuji-Q Highland, where they have world-leading thrill rides such as “FUJIYAMA,” “Takabisha,” and “Eejanaika.”

Riding the Fujisan View Express from JR Chuo Line Otsuki station will give you easy access to Fujikyuko Line Kawaguchiko station, where you will find the “Shibazakura Liner” bus that will take you to the Shiba-sakura Festival site. The interior of Fujisan View Express is wooden with a warm atmosphere, and you are sure to relax and enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji from the windows. In order to ride cargo no.1, where welcome drinks are served, reservations are required. Some Fujisan View Express trains also serve special sweets made by a hotel pastry chef.
